100G QSFP28 AOC Cables
There are 2 main kinds of 100G QSFP28 AOC (Active Optical Cable) Cables and these are the 100G QSFP28 to 100G QSFP28 AOC cable and the 100G QSFP28 to 4 x 25G SFP28 AOC Breakout cable. The breakout cable allows for the aggregation of 4 independent 25G data streams into the 100G link.
The 100G QSFP28 AOC cables provide a cost effective option for 100G connectivity for short distances from 1 meter up to 100 meters which is very useful for many applications across the data center or enterprise network.
100G QSFP28 DAC Cables
Similar to the AOC Cables described above, there are also 2 main kinds of 100G QSFP28 DAC (Direct Attach Cable) Cables and these are the 100G QSFP28 to 100G QSFP28 DAC cable and the 100G QSFP28 to 4 x 25G SFP28 DAC Breakout cable. While both provide 100G bandwidth, the breakout cable offers the ability to aggregate 4 different 25G signals into the 100G.
These 100G QSFP28 DAC cables provide an ultra cost effective mean of 100G connectivity over very short distances (typically just a few meters) between switches within a rack or across adjacent racks in data center applications.
