QSFP28 LR4 Overview

As demand for 100G continues to grow in the market driven predominantly by data center applications, QSFP28 optical transceivers have emerged as the preferred modules. This article provides a detailed overview of the 100G QSFP28 LR4 transceiver.

Definition

The 100G QSFP28 LR4 transceiver is designed for transmission over a distance of up to 10km using single mode fiber and with a working bandwidth of 1295nm to 1310nm. Just like most QSFP28 modules, the 100G QSFP28 LR4 transceiver converts four 25Gbps electrical signals in four LAN WDM optical signals and then proceeds to multiplex them into a single 100G channel for transmission over fiber. This process is reversed at the receiving end with the 100G signal received on the fiber demultiplexed into four LAN WDM optical signals before being converted back to four 25Gbps electrical signals
